Introduction

Welcome to ReceiptZero ("we," "our," or "us"). ReceiptZero is a receipt scanner and tax-record organizer for freelancers and self-employed people ("App"), developed by Soso Family in Vancouver, Canada.

We built ReceiptZero to be private by design. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how it is protected. Please read it carefully. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Receipts and images: When you scan a receipt with the camera or import a photo, the image and the information read from it (such as vendor, date, total, currency, and taxes) are stored locally on your device. We do not transmit, upload, or access the content of your receipts.
• Tax profile: Settings you enter — such as your tax jurisdiction (e.g., United States / Canada), fiscal year start, and currency — are stored locally on your device to organize your records and reports.
• Organization data: Categories, notes, and other organizational details you create within the App are stored locally on your device.

On-Device Processing

• Text recognition (OCR): Reading the text from your receipts happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework. Receipt images are not sent to us or any server to be scanned.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect personal identification information.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not access your contacts or messages.
• We do not include advertising or advertising identifiers.
• We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs inside the App.
• We do not upload or transmit your receipts or records to our servers — we operate no servers that receive your data.

How Your Information Is Used

The information described above is used only on your device, to:

• Scan, organize, search, and categorize your receipts
• Check receipts against jurisdiction-specific record-keeping requirements
• Generate the PDF and CSV reports you export
• Optionally back up and restore your records via your own iCloud account

Because the App operates on your device, Soso Family does not receive, store, or have access to your receipts or records.

Data Storage

Local Storage

By default, all receipts, images, and tax records are stored locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers. You have full control over your data and can delete it at any time within the App.

iCloud Backup (Optional)

If you enable iCloud Backup in Settings, your records are stored in your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so they can be backed up and restored across your devices. This data resides in your personal iCloud — Soso Family cannot access it. No separate login or account is required; it uses the iCloud account already signed in on your device. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can turn iCloud Backup off at any time in Settings.

Third-Party Services

ReceiptZero does not embed advertising networks or third-party analytics. The only third-party services involved are provided by Apple:

• Apple iCloud (CloudKit): Used only if you enable iCloud Backup, to store your records in your own private iCloud (see above).
• Apple App Store / In-App Purchases: Optional Pro upgrades (subscription or one-time purchase) are processed by Apple. Apple handles your payment; we do not receive or store your payment details. Purchase processing is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Device Permissions

• Camera: Required to scan receipts. Camera data is processed locally and is not transmitted externally.
• Photos (optional): Used only if you choose to import an existing photo of a receipt.
• Face ID / Touch ID (optional): Used only if you turn on the App Lock feature. Biometric authentication is handled entirely by iOS; the App never sees or stores your biometric data.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your information, including storing receipt images with file-level data protection on your device. Because your data is stored on your device and in your own iCloud, its security also depends on your device's security settings. We recommend enabling a device passcode and biometric authentication, and you may also enable the App's built-in Face ID lock.

Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Your Rights

Because your data stays on your device and in your own iCloud, you remain in control of it at all times. Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Access & portability: View your records in the App, and export them as PDF or CSV at any time.
• Deletion: Delete any receipt or all of your data directly within the App, or by deleting the App and its iCloud data.

ReceiptZero is a record-keeping and organizing tool. Its compliance checks and reports are aids for keeping records and do not constitute tax, accounting, or legal advice. Please consult a qualified professional for advice about your specific situation.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
